ABOUT US

Crumbs From the Table is a new charity which is starting in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.  We are incorporated with Industry Canada. Our Registered Charity number is 83110 8360 RR0001.

We are governed by a Board of Directors which presently includes Bishop Sue Moxley (Anglican), Mark Gabrieau, who is a chef and owner of Gabrieau’s Bistro in Antigonish, and Maurice (Moe) Smith, MLA, a lawyer.  James MacDonnell is our Vice President, Karen Schuegraf our treasurer, Peter Dowd is a computer resource technician and bilingual, Allana Boyd, and Jean Harrison, President and secretary.

We are also assisted by Shirley Harrison and Linton Harrison who organizes the computer.

Our objective is to place collection boxes in restaurants, inviting the patrons to donate a  portion of what they have just spent on a meal to help alleviate world hunger.  This money will be channeled through established charities (see our page on some that we will be using).  We will support immediate relief on the short term but our main aim is to encourage water and sustainable development projects which help people to supply their own food and become independent.  We are also interested in micro-credit which gives small, interest free loans for very poor people to start their own businesses.
We think the greatest need is probably in Africa.  All the projects we work with will be set up and run by local people responding to local needs.

We will keep our expenses to a minimum.  Our collectors are volunteers and presently so are all our organizational staff.  We are grateful to Mark Gabrieau who provides a meeting place and any food and drinks required, and also to Wendy and Rob Bleau who have donated our web site and set it up with the help of Hermann Reindl and Paul Schuegraf. Thanks to Rob Bleau for the photograph of candles on the banner at the top of this page. We also thank the Rev. Jack Tattrie who is now webmaster. Thanks to Gail Tattrie for assisting with the updates to the website.

We plan to be very open and accountable.  Our boxes have business cards attached giving all our contact addresses and numbers.  On the backside are our Mission Statement and the invitation to diners.  We have a web page for our financial statement which informs how we disbursed the money, and we will also send annual financial statements to all restaurants noting the amount which has been collected through their establishment.
